The Magna Carta Chronicle is a lavishly illustrated timeline that charts the story of the evolution of individual freedoms, democracy and the rule of law from the reign of King John in 1215 to the present day. It has been produced by What on Earth Publishing, specialists in the art of telling stories through timelines, in association with the Magna Carta Trust to help commemorate 800 years (1215 - 2015) since bad King John was forced to agree to a peace treaty at Runnymede.

Content for the Magna Carta Chronicle app comes from the book - of the same name - that was produced for the 2015 Magna Carta 800th Commemorations. A copy of this book was sent to every Primary School in Britain as a young persons guide to the story of 800 years in the fight for freedoms and rights.

The Magna Carta Chronicle app contains a fully detailed copy of the timeline as well as more than 40 newspaper articles detailing key moments over the last 800 years that have led to the kinds of freedoms we benefit from today. You can explore the content by touching, dragging, pinching and zooming. You can flip to the textual information on the back and read it like a book or browse around the illustrations on the front following any of the many threads which make up the web of Magna Carta history. This interactive app is ideal for use in classrooms on touchscreens or whiteboards or for individuals of any age to explore on their tablets and iPhones.

To test your knowledge of all this history we have also included a "one minute challenge" Touch the "quiz" button on the toolbar along the bottom of the screen to try the quiz. Enjoy and good luck!

Words by Christopher Lloyd, illustrations by Andy Forshaw, Programming by Stephen Howell.
